Education/Certification:

Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (IP) and School Bus (S) endorsement(preferred)

Experience:
|
Five years of working with fuel and diesel engines
|
Knowledge/Skills:
|
Knowledge about diesel and gas engines, basic techniques, and methods of safety
Literacy in the English Language
Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of proficiency in diesel and automotive mechanical repair
|
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform major and minor mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and inspections on all district vehicles in a timely and efficient manner and without supervision. Maintain accurate, up-todate preventive maintenance records.
- Rebuild, replace, or repair major vehicle components, assemblies, and systems including engines, transmissions, suspensions, electrical, and cooling systems.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
- Ensure shop, equipment, and tools are in safe operating condition.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests.
- Keep equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, and installing component and part upgrades.
- Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, and hydraulics; complete machine shop operations; make adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contract, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
- Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives; and adjusting controls and systems.
- Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
- Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
- Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Contain costs by using warranty, and evaluating service and parts options.
- Keep supplies ready by inventory stock, place orders, and verify receipt.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; and read technical and regulation publications.
- Enhance maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:Maintain emotional control, able to read and communicate effectively, able to operate computer, and maintain accurate and auditable records.
Ability to stand; walk, sit and talk or hear (0 to 33% of the work day).
Ability to use hands to feel and push or pull, be able to stoop and, kneel, crouch and crawl.
Lift and carry objects weighting from 10 t0100 lbs (34 to 66% of the work day).
