District Primary Purpose:
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) serves as a senior executive  responsible for providing visionary leadership and strategic direction for technology systems in La Joya ISD. This role is critical for advancing administrative efficiency and instructional innovation through technology. The CIO will ensure that the district’s technology infrastructure, data systems, and digital tools support teaching, learning, and operational excellence while maintaining cybersecurity and data privacy.

 

Department Primary Purpose:
To lead the development, implementation, and management of technology initiatives that support student achievement and district operations. The CIO will collaborate with district leadership to ensure that IT strategies align with academic, operational, and administrative goals, with a focus on innovation, security, and long-term sustainability.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive IT strategy that aligns with the district’s mission, vision, and goals.
  2. Advise the Superintendent and senior leadership on technology trends, innovations, and best practices in K-12 education.
  3. Lead digital transformation initiatives to integrate technology into LJISD operations, including teaching and learning environments.
  4. Oversee district-wide IT infrastructure planning, deployment, and management, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
  5. Ensure the district's technology infrastructure meets both current and future needs for educational and administrative purposes.
  6. Establish, provide training, and enforce data governance policies, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  7. Implement comprehensive cybersecurity strategies to protect the district’s information assets from threats, including cyber-attacks, data breaches, and unauthorized access.
  8. Lead and mentor a high-performing IT team, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive work environment.
  9. Develop and manage the department’s budget, ensuring efficient and cost-effective use of resources.
  10. Help manage vendor relationships and negotiate technology service agreements to ensure the district receives high-quality technology services.
  11. Build strong relationships with educators, administrators, and staff to address their technology needs.
  12. Promote professional development for staff to ensure continuous learning and adaptation to district-provided technologies.
  13. Provide exceptional customer service in support of student achievement throughout the district.
  14. Provide oversight and individual evaluation of senior-level leaders, creating performance indicators for success and coaching leaders to meet department and district goals.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises, evaluates, and makes staffing recommendations of Information Technology employees.

Standard office environment requirements: sitting, using computers, communicating verbally and electronically, and occasional lifting.

 

Work Environment:
Mostly in an office setting with frequent district school site visits. Interaction with staff, technology vendors, and school administrators is frequent.
