District Primary Purpose: To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.
Department Primary Purpose: The Aquatic Center Head Lifeguard will assist the Aquatic Center Head Manager with the management, operation, and maintenance of the La Joya ISD Aquatic Center at the Sports and Learning Complex. The Aquatic Center Head Lifeguard assist in overseeing day to day lifeguard operations. Serve as a lifeguard and ensure all lifeguards perform their duties.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: High School Diploma
First Aid / CPR Certified
Lifeguard Certified
Lifeguard Instructor (Preferred)
Experience/Special Skills: Active Learning; Problem Solving; Cooperation; Functional Supervision; Program Assessment; Other specialized job requirements include good public relations skills and the ability to supervise and control situations in a professional manner that may arise during the job.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide internal and external customer service in both English and Spanish.
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of the aquatics center, including recommending process improvement, scheduling repairs and maintenance, and supervising assigned staff.
- Assist in managing cash and prepare daily financial reports as needed.
- Assist in maintaining inventory of supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
- Instruct various aquatic programs as assigned.
- Answer questions and provide information to the public regarding the aquatics division’s operations and activities.
- Perform all lifeguard responsibilities including monitoring pool activities, applying first aid, and performing water rescues as necessary.
- Ensure that swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on decks. Fill in for lifeguards as necessary.
- Orient new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities.
- Ensure that lifeguards perform in accordance with establish safety regulations and policies.
- Assist and inform the Aquatic Center Manager as necessary of pool maintenance needs including cleaning, chemical adjustments, and repairs. In the event of Aquatic Center Manager is not available, will ensure pool maintenance standards are up to par.
- Conduct trainings on water safety, rescues, CPR, First Aid, safety precautions and any other applicable safety concerns as needed/assigned.
- Assist with scheduling of lifeguards to ensure the adequate coverage of pool areas are maintained during operating hours.
- Provide lifeguard certification courses as needed / as assigned.
- Interface with patrons regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues. Provide input and feedback while responding to problems.
- Will assist Pool Maintenance Operator monitor, clean filters, and clean skimmers.
- Assist Pool Maintenance Operator vacuum pools to meet manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Responsible for washing down slides and stairways two times a day in according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Assist Aquatic Center Manager in overseeing and supervising any and all business transactions of the Aquatic Center to include, but not limited to, school study trips, summer community visits, Kitchen/Snack bar sales and wellness activities.
- Assist to ensure that all Aquatic Center staff is in compliance with Kronos regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
