District Primary Purpose:
To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement
Department Primary Purpose:
Assist in the implementation of state laws and policies and procedures for the sake of the safety and security of students, staff and district property.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED
Peace Officer’s license by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE)
Texas Class C Driver’s License
Experience/Knowledge:
Knowledge of school security, the Student Code of Conduct, Texas Education Code, Texas Penal Code, and Texas Family Code
Ability to work effectively with youth as well as adults
Ability to write an effective, correct, legally complete offense report in English language
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Patrol assigned campuses on a scheduled basis.
- Respond to calls from any district principal or designee regarding crisis situations.
- Escort district personnel in potentially hostile situations.
- Write effective, legal incident reports.
- Conduct investigation and collect evidence as necessary for supporting criminal investigations (witness statements and real evidence), concerning an alleged criminal offense.
- Apprehend offenders when warranted by the situation.
- File appropriate criminal charges as applicable with proper agency.
- Enforce laws both, felony and misdemeanor degree of federal, state and local origin.
- Investigate motor vehicle traffic accidents involving school district vehicles within school district boundaries.
- Assist principals with complaints concerning unauthorized persons on campus.
- Assist the Transportation Department with problems at bus stop areas and/or chronic disruptions on school buses.
- Assist staff with after-school functions upon request.
- Assist other police agencies concerning public safety as requested.
- Stop and identify suspicious persons and/or vehicles on school property.
- Enforce all rules and regulations adopted by the Board of Trustees of La Joya I.S.D.
- Take such other actions as set forth in the L.J. I.S.D. Police Department Procedures Manual.
- Meet TCLEOSE weapons proficiency requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Maintain emotional control under stress, exhibit rapid mental decision-making ability to effectively handle disturbances or distractions.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
- Ability to stand, walk, talk, or hear (67 to 99% of the work day).
- Able to use hands to finger, handle or feel (34 to 66% of the work day).
- Push/pull, kneel, stoop, crouch, and/or crawl, taste or smell (0 to 33% of the work day).
- Occasionally (0 to 33% of the work day) lift and/or carry objects weighing from 10 to more than 100 lbs.
- Special vision requirements include: 20/20 (corrected), ability to identify and distinguish colors. Be able to adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus, judge distances and spatial relationships and observe an area peripherally.
- Work environment; exposure to hot and cold temperatures, toxic chemicals and risk of electrical shock (0 to 33% of the work day), ability to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and wet, humid conditions (34 to 66% of the work day).
- Typical noise level for the work environment is loud noise.
- Hearing requirements include: ability to hear alarms on equipment, client calls and instructions from department staff.
- Repetitive motion actions include: use of foot control, both feet (7+ hrs. of the work day), use of hands, both hands (7+ hrs. of the work day), grasping simple/light objects (7+ hrs. of the work day), grasping firm/heavy objects (1-2 hrs. of the work day).
