District Primary Purpose: To lead and elevate La Joya ISD by championing a rigorous and innovative K-12 Mathematics curriculum and instructional program, thereby enhancing student success and achievement at all levels.
Department Primary Purpose: To ensure the LJISD priority of teaching and learning excellence in K-12 Literacy classrooms. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the K-12 Coordinator position leads the implementation of instructional support, curriculum, assessment, and professional learning in the area of K-12 Mathematics. It coordinates and delivers ongoing support to campuses and ensures the K-12 implemented instructional approach and instructional materials reflect research, evidence-based practices, and align with students needs vertically.
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in the content area or directly related field;
- Master’s degree in the content area, curriculum and instruction, or directly related field preferred;
- Valid Texas Teaching Certification;
- Bilingual or ESL certification preferred;
- Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification preferred.
Qualification Requirements:
- Minimum of 3-years successful experience teaching K-12 Mathematics including campus-level leadership experience working to improve mathematics student outcomes; district-level experience implementing evidence-based practices and instructional materials to improve student outcomes preferred.
- Experience with supporting in program design, development, implementation, and data-driven decision-making.
- Experience with designing and delivering professional learning for adult learners (teachers, administrators, central office staff).
- Experience facilitating Professional Learning Communities and providing direct support to teachers as an instructional coach, lead teacher, or similar role.
- Experience preparing high quality, vertically aligned curriculum documents.
- Knowledge of the science behind how students learn math, the use of High-Quality Instructional Materials, and Research-Based Instructional Strategies.
- Knowledge of program, curricular, and assessment requirements in Texas public schools K-12, including Emergent Bilingual students.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student levels.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices for Emergent Bilingual students.
- Ability to aggregate and analyze student outcome data, gain insights, and communicate those insights to teachers.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate projects, work and training related to the implementation of the District’s K-12 Mathematics instructional program.
- Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines while giving great attention to detail.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills to work effectively with educators, staff, and community stakeholders.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provides instructional leadership for K-12 Mathematics for assigned campuses and supports the implementation of evidence-based practices, instructional materials, and District initiatives.
- Designs, develops, and maintains district-level K-12 Mathematics curriculum and assessments for grade levels and courses.
- Provides leadership in the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective educational resources into the curriculum.
- Support comprehensive program evaluations, using data to drive improvements in K-12 Mathematics student outcomes.
- Builds capacity of campus administrators, lead teachers, and classroom teachers across the District in the area of K-12 Mathematics.
- Contributes to the development of the K-12 Mathematics district-wide professional learning plan based on data trends and District initiatives.
- Designs, delivers, and supports presentations for professional learning offerings as determined by instructional needs.
- Collaborates with teachers on planning, preparing, and internalizing standards-aligned lessons.
- Support teachers with instructional needs specific to K-12 Mathematics through observation/feedback, modeling, co-teaching, coaching, and professional learning.
- Support collaboration with District staff to ensure that all K-12 Mathematics programs and supports are executed at the highest level and cross-functionally.
- Support collaboration with District departments to coordinate and implement programs that support the special needs of all student populations in K-12 Mathematics.
- Ensures accurate and timely records to document campus support.
- Demonstrates a growth mindset in working with and building strong relationships with teachers.
- Attends department meetings, trainings, and professional learning as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not directly evaluate or supervise staff.
Working Conditions:
Physical Demands: Typical demands of an office environment, including extensive computer use and district-wide travel for meetings and events.
Work Environment: Primarily office-based with regular interaction with district staff, educators, students, families, and community members. Attendance at evening or weekend events may be required.
