District Primary Purpose:    

To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.

 

Department Primary Purpose:

To develop menu and production implementation including research, planning, organizing, testing, and executing strategies to ensure healthy meals are provided to maximize students’ learning, attention, and overall well-being. To work closely in the events menu modifications are needed, this position works closely with campus managers, and administrators to ensure timely promotional programs are executed.

Qualifications:                                              

 

Education/Certification:    

Bachelor’s of Science in Dietetics or related filed    

Registered Licensed Dietitian

Valid Texas driver’s license

                                                                                 

 

Experience/ Knowledge   

Five Years or more experience in the field of school food service. 

Knowledge of Texas Department of Agriculture NSLP, SBP, and CACFP regulations preferred. Ability to interpret and implement TDA and USDA program menu planning requirements, required. Knowledge of menu planning, and compliance. Knowledge of computerized nutritional analysis software systems preferred. Proficiency in Computers and Microsoft Office required. Proficiency in English and Spanish required. Knowledge of menu planning, inventory methods, food purchasing, and preparations of foods in a foodservice operation. Ability to manage budget and personnel. Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.

 

 

                                               

                                               

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

 

  1. Develop nutritious, delicious, cost-effective, appealing menus for all meal programs the district participates in that increase participation in every grade year over year in collaboration with vendors, administrators, staff, students, and parents.

 

  1. Develop menu planning and recipe development by utilizing Food Buying Guide, and reassure operations with federal guidelines for Child Nutrition Programs.

 

  1. Conduct required nutrition analysis on menus and maintain cycle-menu catalog numbers, recipes and templates.

 

  1. Work collaboratively with the purchasing team to ensure menu items are incorporated into bids, menu substitutions are compliant, and vendor lead times are prioritized.

 

  1. Develop trainings for school cafeteria staff to execute the menu every day including food preparation, menu planning, inventory control, required records and production schedules.

 

  1. Monitor the quality of food at school cafeterias and develop tools to measure student satisfaction.

 

  1. Promote child nutrition within schools, the district and the community for parents, staff and students.

 

  1. Assist in department and district nutrition education activities and trainings.

 

  1. Drive seasonal marketing campaigns to educate parents staff and students on nutrition.

 

  1. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

 

  1. Comply with federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in food service area.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

            Production Supervisor.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  

           

Mental Demands:    

Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written), interpret procedures, and data, assist in coordinating district functions, maintain emotional control under stress.

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  1. District-wide travel, occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting up to 20lbs.
